We have the contacts and the knowledge to help create good public policy through the legislative process. We also know the pressure points in governments on two continents to achieve success.
We know how government works. Our team understands the important differences between provincial/state jurisdictions. Our team includes individuals who have been both in government and industry.
On one side, we have the public and corporations with valid issues but have no way or no knowledge of the interaction between public servants, political staff and elected representatives.
The red tape bureaucracies can be hugely frustrating to deal with for outsiders. Equally mysterious is how decisions are made and who makes the rules.

Environment/Climate Change
Fletcher Focus supports the philosophy that a strong economy is important for good environmental policies and practices. In turn, a natural environment is excellent for the economy.
Top of the agenda for many policy makers around the world are issues around climate change. As engineers we prepare our clients at an international , national and local level to mitigate and prepare for changes in our climate.

Mindful-Mining
Mining in Canada is almost as iconic as the beaver. The mining sector has created the economic incentive to develop Canada’s economy.
Our mindful-mining initiative brings together many of the forces that drive or stop the industry. These include, prospecting, development, operations, mine sustainability (ore reserves), labour market, financing and impact on the environment.
With mindful mine development that is well engineered, we believe common goals can be achieved, which may have traditionally opposed each other, at least on the surface.

Hydro-Electricity and Transmission
The demand for energy goes up, as does the wish for energy to be clean and cheap. Our team has a unique expertise in hydro-electric development in Canada with an eye to use clean, cheap hydro power to displace electricity currently generated by fossil fuels.
Transmission is critical. Our leadership team has long advocated for more North American interconnection between power electric generation entities.
Transportation
We work extensively on issues around pipelines, railways, trucking, and air travel. These issues often involve many jurisdictions and can be tricky to navigate. Our team has extensive experience at the highest levels of government and extensive experience in the private sectors. Specifically our clients benefit from our regulatory knowledge and benefit by reducing regulatory risk.
Education
Our team brings an international perspective on issues related to post-secondary and secondary education. Each member of our team has a different education path. From home schooling, to public schools, grammar schools, to public and private universities in three countries. Members of our team have been presidents of student unions, at various times, members of university board of governor, national post-secondary education advocacy organizations and each member has a master’s degree from a different university.
We have a national, provincial/state and international understanding. Our prospective goes right from the classroom to school boards/county and state/provincial legislature's as well as insight into STEM fields of study.
Governance
Labour standards need to reflect the realities of the 21st century. They need to be flexible enough to allow companies and individuals to thrive in the 21st century. It’s important to create labour standards that are fair, as safe as possible, with an understanding of the importance of the old adage “an honest day’s pay, for an honest day’s work”. These issues can be very sensitive and a light touch is only possible with the knowledge of how labour codes, regulations and legislations are created.
Automobile Insurance Law
Does your province or state have unfair automobile insurance? The transportation industry is changing rapidly while the insurance industry lags behind. Do you want to advocate for a No-Fault system or a TORT system, or something in between?
We have the expertise to discuss the pros and cons of each system and how to maximize effectiveness of an automobile insurance regime.
Disability Issues
Our team brings a deep understanding of issues surrounding disability. At an individual level and a society level, there are many things that can be done to make a situation better. One of our family members became paralyzed from the neck down (quadriplegic) at the age of 23. We have used this experience with success to remove or reduce systemic barriers in society, in attitude, public awareness, and legislation with an eye to empower the individual.
Health Care
Canadians are concerned about the quality of healthcare available in their community. Healthcare consistently ranks as a top issue in public opinion polling. It’s also never far from the headlines and it’s often loaded with emotion and gripping personal stories. Our team has worked on healthcare issues in government and opposition, with professional bodies, patient groups and with pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
